We are seeking a Leader that can provide:
Mentorship, collaboration and guidance of Site-Level Planning / Production Leads; the Operations Director will be a senior business leader, focused on the safe, efficient and effective production of customer orders, on behalf of the business.
In summary:
Drive optimized planning; production control; cross coordination of underutilized capacity within each production department, while optimizing ordering (leverage volume) and cross pooling of raw material and labor resources. Optimize production, by challenging all aspects of the man; method; machine and material flow.
Job Purpose:
Establish and facilitate a rigorous review of a FTC rough-cut capacity plan that can highlight and share where underutilized capacity can be filled for subsequent level loaded bookings. Additionally, take control of management and the facilitation of pooling raw material ordering to gain ‘volume based’ pricing to support a favorable purchase price variance for your operation, whereby also optimizing the efficient use of raw material inventory to reduce work in capital costs. Build tools for the FTC team that can automate some of the tedious tracking of operational metrics, to ensure proper rigor and accountability is in place for tracking whether each department and employee is ‘making the day’, to a set production target; Ensure rigor is implemented in 6S, shop floor cleanliness and order, along with strong EH&S measures that allow employees to work carefully, safely and go home the way they came to work each day.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop planning tools to drive operational workflow optimization and level loading at FTC. This will feed into rough-cut capacity planning tools to be developed for FTC. Take part and help support the routine SIOP review process for material planning and production level loading requirements. Efforts should lead to maximum on-time-delivery and quality assurance of product to customers.
- Build planning tools for the Operational Leadership at FTC to schedule the ratio and therefore lead times built into the rough-cut capacity tools, to ensure a healthy ratio of hot forge to cold/warm heading exists for the Plant. Work with the Site Operational Leads and the Engineering Team to determine opportunities to plan and execute higher percentages of ‘heading on-size’ to eliminate expensive Grind operations; OSP and increase velocity through the production proses.
- Personally review critical OSP lead times and incorporate those lead times into the rough-cut capacity planning tools, while also personally negotiating with OSP Suppliers to drive better price; better lead times, while ensuring nothing that ‘does not’ need to be sent out for OSP operations isn’t. Drive higher absorption and reduce OSP costs because of this direct management, by actively managing the performance of OSP Suppliers and adopting a ‘Critical OSP Supplier Scorecard’ process for reviewing with our key suppliers.
- Through rough-cut capacity planning; raw material ordering optimization and level loaded planning at the site level; drive FTC to less than 20 days of average late lines within each business’ past due, delinquency backlog.
- Order Management: Develop a robust process flow for accepting orders from customer, to assigning / earmarking raw material to the same new job, to planning the production queue for the job, while ensuring the on-time-start for the job is met for proper level-loading of the factory and reduction of past due delinquent orders. Effectively, establish a material release and planning (MRP) functionality, primarily for the FTC business.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- An understanding of the way Aerospace Fastener businesses optimize planning to drive level-loaded factories, to facilitate strong on-time-delivery to customers.
- Familiarity with KPIs and performance metrics to measure and monitor progress in achieving objectives; particularly with establishing theory of constraint lines; rough-cut capacity planning tools and raw material availability metrics.
- Comfortable with the hands-on use of IT tools (particularly Microsoft Office); Tableau; SQL
- Familiar with common approvals and the basic requirements of Quality Management Systems equivalent to the latest revision of AS9100 and NADCAP

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Reduce material purchase price variances, while driving shorter lead times on raw material.
- Reduce total costs, within FTC on consumable tools and supplies.
- Develop and facilitate routine rough-cut capacity planning for optimized lead times; past due minimization; high on-time-delivery and raw material availability.
- Improve the flow of work in the FTC Plant, by developing and leading the planning optimization of launching / starting work on-time.
- Ensure a safe, clean and productive workplace environment exists that allows for Employees to go home the way they came to work each day.
