Tool Maker III – Aerospace Composites

The Tool Maker at Performance Plastics plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by providing the tools that the production department requires in the fabrication of composite and metal bonded aerospace parts.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Perform tool set ups, including troubleshooting.Inspect and confirm conformity of all engineering requirements.Make fixtures from engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.Troubleshoot tooling and process problems.Design produce and repair special tools, fixtures, gauges, jigs, dies, etc. as needed in the fabrication of aerospace parts.Provide tooling assessments and technical assistance to Program Coordinators/Managers.Assist the Engineering and Manufacturing departments in developing methods to incorporate process/product improvement ideas.Has responsibility for continuous improvement, corrective actions and quality of products.BASIC REQUIREMENTS:A minimum of 5 years as a toolmaker or relevant related experience.Experience with soft tooling in a composite fabrication environment. Aerospace experience is highly preferable.Experience with jigs and fixtures.Experience operating standard machine shop equipment, including lathes, Bridgeport’s, surface grinders, brake press, honing and reaming machines and related equipment.Experience with welding.Experience with pattern making.Knowledge of shop math and GD&T.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Able to analyze and solve production problems in relation to tooling and of making judgments in priority.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.Must be able to work efficiently without supervision to complete projects on time.Adaptable to new ideas and responsibility.Ability to communicate precisely: verbally, in writing, and with sketches or technical drawings. Proficiency in written and spoken English.Must be able to read and interpret mold drawings.Must have basic computer skills.Understanding of basic statistics and math.Manual dexterity required in bending, lifting, and control of arms, wrists and hands in various positions.Visual acuity necessary.Must be able and willing to follow all safety related precautions and rules.High school diploma or equivalent vocational training.Willingness to work overtime, holiday schedules and weekend if required to support manufacturing operations.ITAR RequirementThis position requires the use of information which is subject to compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR).
