Composite Technician

The Composite Technician uses advanced lay-up techniques to include pre-preg or wet lay-up, cutting, bagging, basic repair, autoclave, and/or trimming operations. This role must be able to demonstrate an understanding of how work orders, blueprints, and lay-up charts ensure the quality of the product and provide suggestions on improvements as well as coach and mentor other employees in proper procedures. Must also be able to work with shop tools and equipment used in composite layup and assembly as well as demonstrates the ability to perform in a team environment and exhibit a willingness to do what it takes to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Build composite components for aircraft parts using appropriate lay-up techniques.Handling, mixing, and applying various resin/catalyst materials.Operate a broad variety equipment for cutting, kitting, and assembly of materials to include machines requiring understanding of computer software technology.Use hand/power tools in a safe and efficient manner to shape and form simple and complex components.Prepare composite components for curing process in autoclave and/or oven by applying proper vacuum bagging methods and procedures.Complete self-verification procedure on work orders and other related/required documents.Ensure parts meet all quality standards and guidelines prior to presenting for inspection.Perform simple and complex composite repairs when needed.Effectively coach and mentor others on the proper composite lay-up process and procedures.Maintain a neat and orderly work area, supports the company FOD (Foreign Object Damage) prevention program and complies with all safety regulations.Must be able to perform math computations, to include adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; Convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.Perform other tasks as assigned by management or required by business needs. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalentMinimum 1-year prior experience in composites using pre-preg or wet-layup techniques and materialsExperienced in FAA manufacture and associated paperworkFamiliar with BAC and DPS requirementsDocumented apprenticeship programs or trade school certifications considered in combination with experienceKnowledge of geometric tolerances is required.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand during most of the shiftMust be able to lift and carry items up to 20 lbs. for short distancesAble to work extended hours when required.Must be able to move about an industrial setting and wearing of personal protective equipment typically required in a composite manufacturing environment.ITAR RequirementThis position requires the use of information which is subject to compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR).
